Nigeria’s Youth Deserve Better Opportunities

Nigeria is one of the youngest nations on earth. With over half of its population under 35, the potential of its youth is extraordinary — yet too many young Nigerians are held back by unemployment, digital exclusion, and a lack of access to quality mentorship and skills training. For millions, the barrier appears even earlier: children leave school not because they cannot learn, but because a family cannot meet the cost.

BFI Foundation exists to change that — one young person at a time.

Four Pathways. One Mission.

Our integrated programmes are designed to meet young Nigerians where they are, and take them further than they imagined possible.

Beneath the Four Pathways: Bright Futures Access

Our four pathways are only worth building if young people can reach them. Bright Futures Access is the layer beneath them — the way we remove the barriers of cost and circumstance that stop a young person starting, or keep them from finishing.

Its first instrument is our Back-to-School Fund, which returns children to school and keeps them there. Our commitment is depth over breadth: fewer children, supported for longer, on a multi-year commitment made at the point of selection so that a family can plan on it. We measure it not by how many children we touch in a term, but by how many complete the stage of education they were at risk of leaving.

The same layer meets the practical costs — transport, connectivity, learning materials — that would otherwise exclude young people from our own programmes.

The Fund is approved in principle. Its scope, criteria and scale are being settled now, and will be published in full at our public launch. First disbursement is planned for January 2027.

Our Commitment to Nigeria’s Youth

By 2030, BFI Foundation is committed to:

• Empowering 10,000 young Nigerians through integrated programmes
• Building to a training capacity of 5,000 youth annually by 2030
• Achieving 70% job placement within six months of programme completion
• Ensuring 50% female participation across all programmes
• Reaching 30% rural youth to close the urban-rural divide
• Contributing to reduced youth unemployment in the communities we serve
• Returning children to school on multi-year commitments, and keeping them there through to completion

• Young women and girls facing digital and economic exclusion
• Rural and underserved youth with limited access to quality training
• First-generation learners entering the digital economy
• Youth transitioning from education into employment
