About BFI Foundation
Our Story
The Rahila Ninsen Emmanuel Bright Futures Initiatives Foundation — BFI Foundation — was founded by Joshua Andi Emmanuel. Not simply as a mission, but as a promise.
Ninsen — Rahila Ninsen Emmanuel, his firstborn daughter — was a natural leader. A second-year undergraduate at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a pillar of her church community in Mende, Lagos, she possessed the kind of rare quality that makes others believe in themselves. She was twenty years old when she was taken from her family in a road accident between Pambeguwa village and Saminaka town in Kaduna State, on the 2nd of April 2001.
For over two decades, her family carried that loss quietly and deeply. Then, in April 2025, grief was transformed. A foundation was established — in her name, guided by her memory, and animated by the question her life leaves behind: what would Ninsen have gone on to do, to build, to inspire?
BFI Foundation exists to answer that question — one young Nigerian at a time.
We are registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria, headquartered in Abuja, and committed to reducing youth unemployment and advancing digital inclusion across the country. Our programmes in leadership, digital skills, innovation, and personal development are designed to cultivate in others the exact qualities that defined Ninsen’s brief but extraordinary life.
This is not just a foundation. It is a life, extended.
Our Vision, Mission & Values
Our Vision
A Nigeria where youth lead with integrity, innovation, and digital proficiency.
Our Mission
To empower young adults through mentorship, leadership, and digital skills, enabling them to drive positive change.
Our Core Values
Inclusion: Every young Nigerian, regardless of gender, geography, or background, deserves access to opportunity.
Integrity: We hold ourselves to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.
Innovation: We embrace technology and creative thinking to solve Nigeria’s most persistent challenges.
Collaboration: We achieve more together — with communities, partners, government, and the private sector.
Why BFI Foundation Exists
Nigeria’s youth population is among the world’s largest — and among its most underserved. The numbers tell a stark story:
- 60% of Nigerian graduates lack job-ready skills, particularly in digital and AI sectors
- Only 7% of youth aged 15–24 have marketable ICT skills
- Female digital exclusion remains acute: only 13.4% of women have ever used a computer, compared to 21.8% of men
- Over 92% of Nigerians work in the informal sector, with limited pathways to stable income
- 139 million Nigerians — approximately 58% — currently live in poverty
These are not just statistics. They represent millions of young lives with untapped potential, waiting for a foundation like ours to open the door.
Our Approach
BFI Foundation’s approach is built on four pillars that work together to create lasting, measurable change:
Integrated Programming
We do not offer isolated workshops. Our programmes combine leadership development, digital skills training, mentorship, and personal growth into one coherent journey.
Community-Centred Delivery
We work with local partners, community leaders, and government agencies to ensure our programmes are culturally relevant and geographically accessible.
Gender and Inclusion Focus
At least 50% of all programme participants are female. We actively recruit from rural communities, underserved urban areas, and first-generation learner households.
Accountability and Learning
We measure what we do. Every programme has defined outcomes, and we publish annual impact reports to maintain transparency with our funders, partners, and beneficiaries.
Governance

BFI Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising 7 to 9 members with diverse expertise spanning youth development, technology, finance, law, and international development.
